Abstract
|
|
|
Cardiopulmonary bypass is a form of extracorporeal perfusion which allows for the temporary support of the heart & lungs to permit surgical procedures within the heart or great vessels.
The widespread use of extracorporeal circulation, usually for cardiac surgery, has led to remarkably low mortality and morbidity according to the development of the technique itself.
This review article gives a brief summary of the management for cardiopulmonary bypass as follows.
1) Cardiopulmonary bypass circuit
2) Drugs for cardiac surgery
3) Management for pre-bypass period
4) Monitoring for cardiopulmonary bypass
5) Management during bypass period
6) Management for post-bypass period
